About This Website

DaysSinceLastMassShooting.com was created by Joel Rummel to provide a simple way to keep up to date on the latest mass shootings in the United States.

Ok, but why?

Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the US, and it is the number one cause of death for children. No other developed country in the world has to endure such a magnitude of carnage. It's easy to become desensitized to the constant violence, but it's important to remember that it's an active public health crisis, and that we need to push aggressively for solutions as long as it remains a crisis.

What qualifies as a "mass shooting"?

There is no universally accepted definition of a mass shooting. This website opts to use the Mass Shooting Tracker's definition, which is "any single incident where at least four people are shot". You can read more about their justification for using this definition here.

Where does this website get its data from?

Data on individual shootings is sourced from the Mass Shooting Tracker. Descriptions are sourced from Wikipedia or are auto-generated.
